Coverage

> What portions of New York City does X-Man cover?

X-Man covers virtually all of the Manhattan "qrid": West 8th St/East 1st St north to 139th Street. Within that area it covers just about every road longer than one block, with a couple of notable exceptions; namely, the named streets around and south of Washington Square Park, and the named streets that intermingle with the numbered streets south of West 14th Street.

X-Man does not cover the northern tip of Manhattan (140th Street and above), "Old Manhattan" (below West 8th/East 1st), nor the other boroughs.

> Why doesn't X-Man cover all of Manhattan?

X-Man uses mathematical formulas to compute cross-streets, similar to the one you can find in the Manhattan phone book and other places. This approach relies on a regular progression of street addresses and can't easily be adapted to more irregular street layouts.

(Besides, if you're not familiar with downtown, just knowing a nearby cross-street isn't as useful for locating address as it is elsewhere.)

> When will X-Man cover will the rest of Manhattan or the rest of New York City?

There are no plans to extend coverage beyond the current Manhattan area.

> Will X-Man ever cover other cities?

It's feasible that X-Man could cover certain other cities, provided (this is very important) that they are laid out in a grid with fairly regular street addresses. Washington DC comes to mind as one possible example. However, right now there are no plans for other editions.

> Why did X-Man gave me the wrong answer?

To keep X-Man's memory requirements reasonable, X-Man gives you the name of a nearby crosss street, not necessarily the nearest cross street. It does strive to give you an answer within one block of the actual answer, but there are may be some localized areas where the address numbers jump around a little. X-Man corrects for some of these areas, but there are undoubtedly some that we've missed.

If you have found an address for which X-Man gives a completely wrong answer (or which it claims doesn't exist), please use the contact form to let us know, so that we can address it in a future release.
